Talking Cruise control speed readout accuracy

If I set cruise control to 30 the speedo reads around 35, and generally keeps that 5mph excess all the way up to an indicated *cough* 100 (on private roads ossifer), where the CC is set for 95.

Is it safe to rely on the CC especially with the burgeoning rash of SPECs cameras knocking about? Is it much more accurate than the speedo? Normally with speed cameras I would stick religiously to the limit and only ever go very slightly over - not got a ticket yet, but this would seem to give me an extra few mph.
