The secret to a good window repair is to have it done as soon as possible after the chip appears.I used to do windscreen repairs, and if the correct procedure is used and the chip is recent, then an invisable repair is more than acheivable. If the chip is left, then over time moisture and dirt gets into it and a good repair is more difficult to carry out.
We have various companies come to us to repair chips in screens that have failed the MOT,and on the whole the repairs have been poor. The main thing that they do is they don't polish the repair afterwards which means you can see the opaque area of the repair left by the top layer of filler. It seems as though they are so obsessed with getting the repair done quickly, that they can't be bothered to do a proper job.
I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....
