There are some cheap wheel bolts out there - many where the threads are cut rather than rolled as on the original so you may not be comparing like for like. Cut threaed bolts are more likely to shear than the rolled thread type.

I can understand your concerns regarding the other bolts failing but you can probably blame that on the garages used in the past as many just hammer up the bolts hard tight using an air gun rather than taking the time to torque them correctly. It also helps to smear the threads with an anti-corosive compind such as copper grease.

I would suggest you either go for original bolts or ask if the after-market ones you are considering buying have cut or rolled threads.
