Putting aside all of the modern immobiliser issues, it could just be a plain old starter solenoid sticking issue!
Worth measuring the battery volts when trying to crank though, if they do not drop at all when trying to start then I would look for an immobiliser / starter relay fault - If the volts are dropping but the vehicle is not turning over then I would look at a solenoid / earthing problem (Maybe the earth lead to the engine is loose / corroded?).
Hope that's of use - Cheers Dave
