Just on the dephaser pulley is this something to do with the Variable valve timing? Is the post 2006 a better pulley? Also what is the give away of a duff pulley?
Yes VVT only on the 1.6 & above Petrol.
The give away is a diesel type rattle, but only on cold start up. It's all down to the auto lock, which should lock the timing when cold. vvt only comes in to operation when engine is hot & revving. So once upto operating temp, oil is allowed in & all goes quiet.
They changed the design on the post 2006 engine to make the auto lock more reliable.
Keep asking the more you know, the less likely you are to buy a duffer.
