Hi, I have just had exactly the same problem as you. The car initially started intermittently not starting and then as time progressed it could take up to half an hour to get the thing to start. Sometimes I just gave up, other times when, after repeatedly trying it did start it made a crackling noise. I took it to a proper dealer whom I cannot name and they did nothing to help. In the end I took it to a specialist French car mechanic who found out that the crankshaft was not in line properly. He put it right, and it now runs as sweet as a bird and starts every time. In fact, everything feels better and smoother. Fortunately this only cost 150 but he is a friend so I expect it was a cheaper rate. I know nothing about cars, but I hope maybe this helps.
PS I am running a T reg Clio.
