Unhappy Renault Clio - Electronics - Battery Light

ive got a clio 1.4 95 and recently the battery light keeps on flashing. I took it to the garage yesterday and had a new alternator belt hoping it would be that. However it was fine until after ive bn driving for a while then it flashes every now and again. Could it be a loose connection somewhere? or does the alternator need new brushes?
Please help becuase its starting to get on my nerves a bit now!

could be a loose or corroded earth strap, undo them, clean with wire brush & reattach.

If still no luck try having the alternator tested as it could be brushes

I'm afraid you'll have a job to change the alternator brushes.99% of all modern alternators are sealed units, now,so if theres a problem with it replacement is the only option.

I'd have the charge rate checked, and go from there.Changing an alternator on your car is good fun as Renault have put it in the least accessable place possible......

Good Luck, and let us know how you get on.

I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....

if its a valeo alternator you can buy a voltage regulator which comes as an integral brush/spring/holder, your local independant auto electrician can supply this for about £18 inc!vat! its easy to change the hard part is removing the actual alternator without having to remove drive shaft and exhaust--[you can undo engine mount and jack car up leaving the engine on blocks, good luck, oh and take the alternator with you they can do a bench test which should be free of charge and check the stator and rectifyer
