HELP - Service history

I won't bore everyone too much with the details but:

I bought a 2003 Scenic dci FIDJI with 42k mls at the weekend from an ebay trader in Leeds. When I got to Leeds (4hr journey) the history he talked about didn't exist and the service book was empty. After that journey and a good look at the car (which was straight and HPI clear) and paid for it and he gave me a written guarantee that he would be able to trace the dealer history.
Since then I've attempted it myself and pulled blanks at every seems this car hasn't been to any dealers up there and even has a recall outstanding on the windscreen.

I'm in panic mode now and can't get help from my local Renault dealers as they say they cannot find the history on the Renault database if it wasn't done by them? Is this true????

The V5 says "Bank of Scotland" was the previous fleet owner so I would very much expect it to have been near a Renault dealers's just finding out where?

Needless to say Bank of Scotland are proving very elusive/no help.

although bank of scotland may have been previous owners they probably used a car leasing company to supply and service the car.
try to find out the name of the leasing company then approach them for help/info.

Unhappy Service History

I agree with Bonedavid on this. Most lease hire companies have there own servicing arrangements but I think it is unacceptable not to have the service history stamped in your service book.

I know it may sound strange, but check the name on the number plates(if any...).My car is an ex-lease car,and the lease companies name is written on the number plate(PBH from memory). If the plates are original, then this might help you.

If the car was serviced at a Renault dealership, then the service history will be on the data base which is accessable by any Renault dealer, not just the one who carried out the work.If the history doesn't appear, then the car was serviced elsewhere.

I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....

Thanks but I tried the number plate thing this's from caledonian motors and all they could tell me is that it's never been to them for servicing.

Also rang 4 different Renault dealers at selected location up and down the country and they could only tell me if it had been serviced by themselves, but they are not linked up nationally on a database...I was told this by their HO customer services also.

Loads of blanks at the mo....
