Thumbs down Aftermarket C D Player Smokes In Scenic

Not Having A Good With Car At Moment , The Wife Got A C D Player/radio To Replace Casette Last Christmas I Put It In Car With A Fitting Kit From Halfords Worked Fine Till About A Month Ago When The Steering Control Stopped Working . Using The Controls On Aftermarket Radios Can Be Fiddley But We Put Up With It Untill I Could Be Bothered Looking At It . A Few Days Ago I Got Round To Looking At It After The Wife Had A Scarry Moment As Smoke Appeared From The Dash ! It Turned Out The Remote Control Adaptor Box Had Melted And The Plug And Box Become Melted Together . Waiting For A Reply From The Manufacturers And Back Listening To Tapes , Just Glad The Car Dint Catch Fire !

When the steering remote failed was probably the start of the problems. This may have been down to a loose connection, this connection may then have started to "arc" and spark" between the two - causing it to get hot and overheat.
Good luck with the manufacturers claim, but be warned, you may have a hard job proving that the connections were ok before the unit melted! I don't mean to sound negative, just know what manufacturers will do to try and wriggle out of the blame.

On a side issue - we had a problem at work a few years ago with the IEC mains outlet on the back of blood pressure monitors, similar thing, smoke and melting! To cut a long story short, we wrote to Manufacturers and govt bodies, manufacturer wrote back -"never seen this before anywhere in the worl", a few months later, identical fault, identical reply from company, same again a few months later. They tried to blame all sorts of other problems other than the fact it was theire quipment!
