Fuel Gauge Fluctuation - Mk2 Clio

Hello everyone,

I have just joined the renault forums and I'm finding the site very informative.

I own a 2001(51) Clio 1.2 16v and the fuel gauge is fluctuating especially on inclines/declines. I suspect this is something related to the fuel sender unit and the float arm. So far I have disconnected the wiring to the unit and cleaned the contacts, but still the fluctuations occur. I am planning to replace the fuel sender unit with a used part to see if this cures the problem.

I would like to know if there is anything else which can be causing the fluctuation, any feedback is much appreciated. I am trying to calculate the mpg as I do not have a trip computer and its proving very difficult at the moment.

Many thanks.

Re: Fuel Gauge Fluctuation - Mk2 Clio

Common problem in Saab 9-5's this. A baffle comes loose in the tank and rests on the float arm giving crazy readings, the solution is to take the pump out, remove the baffle through the pump hole and its cured.
