Re: Greasy Windscreen?

Thirty odd years ago my mother (smart lady who studied chemistry at the age of 55 years) gave me this tip which is much the same.

Mix a little water into a bowl of biological washing powder - must be biological - (about a small handful) until it's a smooth paste. Spread onto the screen with a soft cloth and leave for around 10 minutes or so. Her reasoning being the enzymes in the powder broke down the oil particles which would then flush away.

I have used the same trick to remove oil stains from concrete pathways but it does take much longer - around 2-3 days or so.

My dad swears by toothpate....

Personally I use isopropanol alcohol on a soft cloth...takes about a minute and then evaporates away

My mum swears by Astonish to clean the glass in the oven... so if it takes the grease of that it should be good for grease on a windscreen!

I've always found that an initial clean with some water and a sponge, followed by some Windolene/Mr Muscle buffed off with old newspaper woks perfectly well. Remember and clean off the wiper blades and do the side mirrors at the same time, and you'll have no call to go to Specsavers!
