Knocking Noise

Hello, I was wondering if anyone could make any suggestions, I have a 99 Renualt Scenic with a very irritating knocking noise which appears to be coming from the front left hand side. It started off when taking left turns but has now started doing the same thing when going! I have taken it to 2 different garages but they cannot find anything wrong - unfortunately they seem to find something different that needs attention.

I had the same problem with my 1999 megane, I PX'd ir for an 52 Laguna. The dealer that bought it off me drove a couple of hundred yards from his warehouse, and the cambelt broke, and the water pump fell apart...

I dont want to scare you, but i'd get it checked out asap!!

Hi Lou, the 1st thing I would check would be the CV joint, normally noticible on full lock turns, you could also try jacking up the front left of the car and grasping the top and bottom of the tyre and try to rock it. Movement can indicate wheel bearings. After that it could be down to loose bolts on the suspension strut.

Also before trying the above check the wheel nuts are all tight, if not that can cause a knocking.
