Fog light broken glass - MOT issue?

Hi All,

My Laguna went in to a garage yesterday for work to be done on it and they managed to break the front fog light. The glass is cracked almost all the way across, but it is still intact and the light still works.

My question is - is that sufficient for an MOT failure?

Obviously, I'm going to go back to them and complain and try and get them to get me a replacement, but if I don't get anywhere, I might just live with it. However, I'd rather find out now (in summer) if it needs changing rather than in the middle of winter when the MOT is due.

Front fog lights are not a testable item in the the MOT but a cracked lens does take the look away from the car.

Would it be classed as a fail though if it presented a sharp edge?

Nope,it's not protruding from the car so it's not a failure.

I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....

Re: Fog light broken glass - MOT issue?

If you do need to live with it. I would suggest running a very fine line of superglue along the split.

Firstly, it will prevent the crack worsening & a piece falling out.

Secondly, it will prevent water ingress leading to either the lens misting up, or even worse, water shorting out the electrics.

I had a similar problem on my VS, and that's what fixed it for me.

This job should never be complete - the day I think I've done it all, is the day I resign.
