Re: Mileage clocked ARGGGGHHH!!

maybe he's had a new (used) dash put in at some point? but at least the mileage should have been noted somewhere!
i think buying privately you still have some comeback though - not sure what.
more to the point how many owners has it had? and who was the owner before them. you could maybe trace them and ask explaining why

Re: Mileage clocked ARGGGGHHH!!

Clocking a car, whether private or trade is an offence I'm sure.
As has been pointed out though, it may just be that the dash was changed. The mileage need not have been noted if the owner did it himself, but I would have expected the MOT station to pick up on it when the MOT'd it. It's all on a database these days and should have raised concerns.

Re: Mileage clocked ARGGGGHHH!!

Is it a Megane Scenic? They have a history of failed dash's resulting in a new dash being installed, that could be the reason behind the discrepancy...... or the seller was indeed a dodgy toerag.

Re: Mileage clocked ARGGGGHHH!!

Just registred to post this also. I also bought a laguna 2 weeks ago and the temp gauge was faulty so the garage put a new instrument panel in which changed the mileage. I have the original dash which im going to send away to get the temp gauge fixed so i have my milage back.

Can the mileage be changed easily to save me messing about sending a panel away and then refitting once its repaired?

Re: Mileage clocked ARGGGGHHH!!

Considering tha difference in value of the car could be as much as 1000 I think I would be seeking legal advice.

Was the car advertised stating the lower mileage - if so then the car was not as described. The seller had the opportunity to discover if the mileage was incorrect and if he is innocent then he should take the car back giving a full refund.
