New car

Hi all,

Recently bought a Clio 1.5dci from a small independent dealer. The car came with three months warranty and 6 months MOT, and I've had it for just under two weeks now. All initially seemed well, bit after getting used to the car I realised the suspension was noisier than it should be and it turns out I've got a 'broken' anti roll bar link, the other one apparently not too far behind. With tracking as well, I was quoted 130 to get this done at Kwikfit. I asked the dealer if this would be done under warranty and he gave the expected wear and tear speech, but surely if it was sold like this then it was not roadworthy and I have some come back? Also the gearbox has developed a noise when changing into 5th (which I have already posted about) but this is going to be sorted, so I have been assured - I think the guy probably f'd it by trying to change the gear nob and yanking the gear stick.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing and I know I shouldn't have bought a car without a full 12 month MOT, but am just curious to see what anybody else thinks on the matter.

Re: New car

Hey and a belated welcome! Thats a pretty crap thing to happen after just getting the car! I would be having a very loud and not so nice word with the dealer! He may stick to his guns but have a look at this site it may give to a few hints about fighting him on it!

Re: New car

Not sure how you stand with the warranty to be honest,I gave up trying to understand all the laws regarding them a long time ago.A call to the CAB or Trading Standards would help clarify the situation though.

Anti-roll bar links are 7 each from Eurocarparts,no more than half an hour in total to change. To check and adjust the front wheel alignment to remedy your steering wheel problem should be no more than 30,this makes Kwik Fits quote a bit on the hot side to me.......

Re: New car

Yeah I guess it is expensive, but I've tried replacing suspension components on cars before to save money on garage bills and after many aggravating hours I ended up busting a drive shaft and paying a mechanic to sort it out, so I swore I wouldn't bother doing it myself again. I did get Kiwkfit to sort it and do tracking; had to get them to redo the tracking again twice today before I was happy but its all sorted now. Just got to get the gearbox sorted!

Re: New car

Can I just add Kwik fit quoted me 95 for a track rod end change, in comparison it cost me 12 and 20 minutes of my time.

Grab yourself a Haynes manual, if you're a confident diy person
