I dont seem to have a 'miles to next service' clock, would it count down the miles? so it would just be at zero if it had ran out?

And no spanner symbol neither.. like i say i haven't had the car that long so who knows when it was last taken for a service!

Your two problems are related. The wires under the front passenger seat are connected to the passenger-side airbag. It sounds as if a rear-seat passenger has knocked the wires out, causing the car to report a service fault to you - hence the service lamp. Is your airbag lamp on as well?
If this is the case, it's quite an easy fix and the dealer will put a plastic plate over the wires for you to prevent a recurrence.
