Rip off?

Having Megane Pulley and Cambelt prob. Can anyone tell me... Is it usual practice to quote for the water pump as well?

The garage quoted for the pulley and belt repair yesterday, but came back wanting an extra 170 for a water pump today.

Are they ripping me off? I may be a woman that knows not a lot about cars, but I do know enough to tell them I'm not having it done (which they aren't pleased about).

Re: Rip off?

Completely agree with Mikey.

Any one of these items failing can have the same effect on the engine, as not having the cambelt done at all. Also, the water pump can start leaking over time, so rather than changing the belts this year, then having to change the belts prematurely when the water pump seals fail, it makes sense to get it all done.

Peace of mind is a price well worth paying for.

This job should never be complete - the day I think I've done it all, is the day I resign.
