scenic expression 1.6 auto 04 mpg ?

i am thinking about buying a renault scenic 1.6 expression automatic 2004 , and the seller says it can achieve well over 50mpg .

as anyone got 1 and can confirm this i don't think it could but i would be happy to get 38mpg

as my last renault megane scenic 2000 auto only got around 26mpg

A petrol, automatic MPV, I would reckon on high twenties in town to high thirties on a run (being realistic), as Phil says, anything higher is a bonus.

People (especially sellers) will be 'economical' (pardon the pun) with the truth, as they know buyers are cost-conscious these days & don't want a 4-wheeled millstone to carry.

Official figures should be used as a guide to compare different cars, but don't expect to achieve what the government did on a rolling road, when the car was brand-new.

This job should never be complete - the day I think I've done it all, is the day I resign.

We've had two of these in the family.

23 MPG is about the norm around town. 50 is a joke, that'll only happen going down a hill in neutral!

Re: scenic expression 1.6 auto 04 mpg ?

Your 26 mpg figure sounds much more like it. 50 mpg would only be obtainable from a manual diesel.
The seller's optimism reminds me of the days when I drove a Discovery II V8. Those who drove the much more common Td5 maintained that they would do 35 mpg with ease, but when I had one as a loan car, I got about 18 mpg out of it - barely more than the much more muscular and better-sounding V8.
