renault megane wrote off electrical fault

My car was wrote off due to elctrical fire in the engine bay. I parked the car at 5.30pm on friday 9th september didnt move it on the following day had a knock on my door in early hours on sunday morning from police saying it had been involved in a fire and was compleatly wrote off they said the fire brigade said it was electrical. The police said there was no evidence of any foul play involved and a witness had even seen the engine bay starting to go up and no one had been around.

The car was a 2009 new shape renault megane dynamique 1.6 vvt 5dr so still well under its warranty.

I got the manufacturer involved myself thinking this would speed things up abit, they have inspected the car and have told me there is no evidence of any manufacturing fault as there car is totaly burnt out.

My insureance company have said as the fire was so server they couldnt find anything so couldnt prove it was a manufacturing fault, and they have since settled the claim.

My problem is i got the car on finance, I did get gap insureance aswell so i know im going to be abile to pay the finance off just about, but as i got the car this march i have made around 2200 in payments and deposit. I have worked out i am going to get 400 back with the gap insureance cover.

however my insureance have told me as they cant claim from a third party it will go against my no claims and i lose 2 years, Ive been driving for 3 years so losing two years is going to cost me thousands. This is not within my control how can i be punished for this.
The manufacturer have told me when i have explained to them how much i am out of pocket with this its the risk you take with any car.

I am in abit of a dilemma im not sure if i should keep on at the manufacturer or just appcept it as one of them things or if there is anything at all i can do.

I am woundering if anyone else has had any simlar issues with there renaults?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks

Re: renault megane wrote off electrical fault

I had my car stolen and it was found burnt out.
Whoever stole it was never caught and obviously it wasn't my fault but I still lost part of my no-claims come renewal.
Sad to say that's how insurance works I'm afraid.
Home insurance works the same way.
