I called renault customer support and spoke to a very nice guy, he already had a case file opened and new the story. He advised me that the part was ordered and that france have confirmed the part will be available 8th of dec, although it will not reach the dealer until, at latest 13th dec. Why couldnt the dealer tell me that?.
He said that renualt have an obligation to ensure replacement parts are readily available for their vehicles (no matter the age), and if a car is off the road due to parts not available, they will manufacture, and during that period they will pay the dealer a daily ammount to provide the customer with a hire car. He said this would be paid out for as long as it takes, obviously, renault could (and have in my case) take a hit with this, but " the financial loss is less important that customer satisfaction".
So all good on that front, apart from the fact i am still 2 weeks from getting my car back!!!

thaks fo rall your help guys, john
Great stuff, at least now you know that you wont get a surprise bill at the end of it for the hire car rental !

Thanks for posting the update.

Glad its all being taken care of and 'above-board'.

Renault certainly have deeper pockets than Ford...

This job should never be complete - the day I think I've done it all, is the day I resign.

Re: renault parts from main dealer, aaarrrhhh!!!

ive seen a few of this shape renault at a local breakers yard,"usually accident damage or ex-taxi",you could have gone online or breakers and had a second hand one for 40 pounds, had it fitted for 30 as a temp whilst waiting for a new one,but as it goes with the hire car etc id say your doing ok and saving on wear and tear to your own car,its not the point though i know. even if i had the money id never use main dealers they are usually around 100% more expensive than the average garage "well in my experience anyway". a mechanic is a mechanic, good ones are hard to find but theres plenty of good guys out there who charge fairly.

Re: renault parts from main dealer, aaarrrhhh!!!

Just a quick update...

Renault customer services called me (before the garage did!) to tell me that the part will not be ready on the 8th of dec as promised, and that he couldnt give me a date, he didnt know what the problem was, just kept apologizing and assuring me he will keep me up to date!!!!!

So car has been in forecourt for 9 weeks! with a brand new set of winter tyres (that have done about a 5 miles), a tow bar which i need for my quad and is also sitting idle as i cant tow it, now the mot has expired and i cant mot car as it will fail on the driveshaft, and a private plate which i cant transfer as i need an mot certificate!!!!!

not a happy bunny!
