Renault (lack of!) warranty - unusual or not?

My nearly new Grand Scenic (which cost best part of 20,000) has developed creaking / squeaking noises from the door surrounds near the top. (about 5 cm from your ears and VERY irritating). So I thought, nice new car let's ask the dealer if they can take a look under warranty.

I was very surprised when they told me that Renault refuse to cover this sort of thing under warranty

Is this because the cars are so plagued with these sort of problems they can't afford to? Is this unusual amongst dealers or common (i.e. if I'd bought a C Class Merc and it started squeeking and creaking after 3000 miles, would Mercedes be turning round to me and basically be saying "tough"?

Just curious

So nothing has changed in 7 years - when I bought my Scenic new in 1998, there were patches of primer showing through the paint in a few areas under the bonnet and inside the top part of the tailgate. This should be a warranty job to apply paint but nope, not covered and "they are all like that anyway" - a quick check on 2 other scenics in the showroom showed this to indeed be the case - primer showing in the same areas. Puts me off ever buying another Renault.

Why shouldn't this be covered - it isn't as designed and should therefore be put right, surely. I'd try another dealer and if you still get no joy get onto Renault Customer Services .

I've had no trouble whatsoever with any problems I've reported on the bus including a rattling steering wheel cowling which they happily removed and re-fitted without charge or hassle.

The only time I can remember paying for anything was last year on the E Class Merc I had which at the time was a year old and was making noises from the front suspension when manoeuvring at low speed. They discovered that inner wing lining was rubbing on the tyre on full lock because it had come loose, they charged me because they said it must have been accidental damage - turned out that wasn't the problem and they never did solve - I gave up. My god, some of you think Renault service is bad - don't ever buy a Merc

Seems to me that some dealers can't be bothered with spending loads of time on rattles/noise etc, this is probably due to the fact that its difficult to claim all this time back from Renaults warranty dept, the normal procedure is if the vehicle is under 12mths old, has be heard and confirmed by RTE or Senior Technician and the noise is deemed to be due to a manufacturing defect then there should be no problem with rectifying it.
