Idiot call centres

Every night for the last couple of weeks when I am driving home from work, I get the same number calling me. I don't answer it while I am driving, and don't bother to call it because I don't recognise the number

They rang again a few minutes ago. It's Orange:

Them - "Hi Mike" (and that's winding me up to start with) "it's [somebody] from Orange. You may have seen the adverts on the TV and know that we are rewarding our existing customers. As a loyal customer we would like to offer you some discounts. Do you have a few minutes to see what I can do for you?"

Me - "I'm on Vodafone"

End of conversation. What a freakin' waste of time!

God knows! I was too pi$$ed of to bother asking...

I usually use that tactic to get rid of people. I just ask them where they got the number

Them - "You completed your details on an Internet site"
Me - "Which one?"
Them - "No idea - our computer system does not say"
Me - "Ok then - take me off the list and don't call again"

Usually does the trick. This one was probably a competition entry thinking about it...

They used to annoy me too. I usually say:
"How did you get my number"
They give some various reason.
I say "I'm registered with the Telephone Preference Service, and that's a breach of the conditions, please take me off your list".

They usually hang up quick.

You can register with the TPS and MPS (for junk mail) at :

It takes a month or too to work into the system, but it does work. We get very few calls now.

Actually I've just remembered I never registered our new mobile numbers, so I've just done them too.

Currently in HD462's garage:

I work for Orange and have a company phone, and I *still* get dealers calling me, claiming to be from Orange and offering me upgrades. If they call and I'm e.g. in the car then I sometimes let them go on a little while before dropping the 'I'm a manager at Orange' bit...

NB I work on the corporate side of the business and know nothing about consumer phones, tariffs, deals, customer service or anything (before you ask lol)
