If you think Renaults give problems, wait till you get your 206......

I think you'd be better off with a Honda, but the thing with Japanese cars is they don't often go wrong, but if they do you'll have to take out a second mortgage to put it right.

Personally,I rate Renault quite highly(certaintly above Citroen and Peugeot),but my car of choice would be anything Italian.......although I did chicken out of buying an Alfa 156 a while ago after hearing some horror stories about them.

I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....

Personally, I'm hooked, but largely because you can't beat the spec for the money. I really wanted a 407 this time around, but the Laguna trounced it on spec. I might still have gone for the Pug (after two bad Lagunas in a row) but the lease costs on the 2.0 HDi Executive that I wanted were just silly.

My cars are either company owned or on contract hire, so it doesn't cost me a penny if they break down. My first Lag was quite possibly the most reliable car I've ever had, but numbers two and three turned out very much to be 'Friday afternoon' jobs. I'm hoping no.4 will prove better, and in fairness, it's only had niggly problems in its first 12 months and 30K miles.

We're also on our second Clio - the first bought brand new in 2002, and the second an 04 plate bought last year. We had some problems with the 02 just before trading it in, but apart from that, it ran fine. Again, it was spec that sold us on the Clio, and in particular, safety. At the time, you were hard pushed to find a car of that size and price with twin airbags as standard, let alone four airbags, ABS and EBD.

I pretty much agree with everything said so far.
For money v spec you would be hard pressed to beat Renault.
Citroen are cheap and offer good specs, but the cars are cr@p. We had 2 Picassos, the first, a 1.6 petrol was quite god, just gutless so we "upgraded" to a 2.0hdi - it was a lot worse, had loads of niggles and faults, build quality was very poor & dealers were even worse.
We had a 206 - it never let us down in the 2yrs we had it but it was again poorly built and rattled.

I have always been a Ford fan, mostly because I had an E reg Escort for 5 yrs and all I ever did to it was replace the tyres/brakes etc.
We had a Focus that was very good in all respects - except my daughter got travel sick in it, don't know why, this is the only car that has affected her.

We now have 2 Renaults - the Laguna because we liked the spec, design, price etc - also in the 2yrs we have had it it has been fine.We went for the Megane cc because of its looks, spec & price. Had Vauxhall offered us the same cracking deal as Renault we may well have had an Astra Twintop instead, but as the model was only justed launched the dealers wouldn't deal. There wasn't much to choose between them, the Astra had several advantages over the Megane, but also several disadvantages.

I may or may not buy renault again - depends whats around when we are due to change. I will certainly look at Renault but if Ford or anybody else have a decent car at the right price at the right time I would consider it.

I think most people will go with whatever brand gives the best value and performance per . There are those that will go for the street cred brands and that is there decision.
I have a thing for kawasaki motorbikes but if another brand came out that suited me better I would change.
