Re: Hunt for Espace MkIV

never had a problem with rear tyre wear on my 2003 Espace. It is heavy on front tyres but then to be honest so was my Galaxy.

Re: Hunt for Espace MkIV

abnormal rear tyre wear is easy enough to fix, just get them shimmed with stainless steel foils between the axle and the bolted on hub, shouldnt cost more that 200 at most.
biggest headache is just finding a place with the right garage equipment to do the job (even though the kit is 9,000 - 30,000 for the special ramp.) its low enough price for most large garages to get.

Re: Hunt for Espace MkIV

I have a Mk4 2004 Authentique - low end spec but still has the toys and comfort I like.
2.0 petrol/manual g'box.
Fuel consumption is a concern around town on the very short school trip - as the engine never gets warmed through it is showing circa 15mpg but fully loaded with three adults and gear for a weeks holiday running at m/way speeds then 34-36 mpg appears.
The cars are certainly smooth.
If the petrol engine makes a noise like a diesel then suspect the camshaft dephaser - the works to repair will include a new cambelt etc.
If the cam belt is near due then I would suggest a new dephaser is fitted when the job is cafrried out as quite a few dephasers appear to fail soon after a timing belt has been replaced.
Happy hunting.

Re: Hunt for Espace MkIV

Hi, look at my link for espace mpg
I have a 2.0T auto.It has oodles of power and apart for turbo lag is a great motorway vehicle BUT town mpg is woeful especially in winter,,,17mpg.....look at the gov figs onthe road tax web site.....more accurate than renault figures. The town mpg is worse than my 1986 peugeot 505 auto ohv !!!!! My vehicle is 2007 Jan and it does eat front tyres. Alternator is known problem,,,failed at 21 K. Engine vibrates when i select air con, so this is a worry and check that fan blows tofootwell as powerfully as it does to screen. I get cold feet. Air con is poor compared to myprevoius vehicle, a voyager.....was icey cold and up to keeping passengers in a big vehicle comfortable on long summer journeys. My espace simply cannot cope
