generation 3 espace petrol or diesel ??

morning people , i have the dosh all sat waiting to go get me a generation 3 espace . but i cant decide whether to get a 2.0 16v petrol manual or get the 2.2 dci manual . now the thing is, its not going to be used as an everyday car here , we kinda only need 1 1/2 cars in this house so its use would be limited. diesel versions are about a grand dearer than the petrol ones and it would take me a long time to recoup that grand on savings in fuel costs etc. what does the 2.0 16v realistically do in mpg's compared to the 2.2 dci ? ( i think its 31 and 38 ) and im not that bothered about resale value as im going to keep it for at least 4 years . whatcar says the 2.0 is not upto it but they are always super critical i think any thoughts people ??

Parkers list mpg on a 2.0 as being between 19 - 34, compared to the 2.2dT's 27 - 44. Both have 115bhp but with the dT's having more low-down torque, it probably would give the 2.0 a good run.

I can't really compare engines, but I've just this week bought a 1997 2.2dT and its pretty nippy - and that's with it being due a full service, which I'm planning on doing today!

The dCi's (2000-onwards) have 130bhp with the gen 4's having 150 I think.

Unless you are doing an awful lot of miles, the petrol would be the one to go for.

£1000 in fuel would get you a long way!.

I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....

Diesel is better and longer service interval.

If you are gonna have kids and kit than diesel will pull better.

Obviously I m biased as I have a diesel one .
