Megane MOT fail advice

Hi all

Hoping for some advice. Just taken my 2003 Megane Dynamique for its MOT and it failed on the below:

Parking brake lever has no reserve travel [3.1.6]

Offside rear parking brake recording little no effort [3.7.A.7a]

Rear registration plate lamp not working [1.1.C.1d]

Offside front Ball joint has excessive play [2.2.B.1f]

I have been quoted 326+vat if it needs new brake discs or 240 if not. The guy at the garage said he wouldn't know until he started to look at it.

Does this seem like a reasonable price?

I know the plate lamp will cost next to nothing to sort out.

I also got the advisory items:

Offside front constant velocity joint is slightly worn

Front and rear brake pad wearing thin.

Thanks for you help

Re: Megane MOT fail advice

Hi there and welcome.

It's a hefty bill, but having a cursory look at the parts (and the labour involved in fitting), it doesn't look like a rip-off to me.

Its worth shopping around, but don't sacrifice repair quality on the altar of a low-price, I've seen numerous examples of perfectly good cars being ruined by someone incompetent being let loose on it.

It might be worth inputting your car's reg here; just so you can price the parts out yourself.

This job should never be complete - the day I think I've done it all, is the day I resign.
