Renault Megane 2001 - problem

Really not sure if I am posting this in the right area, but having some trouble with my 2001 16v renualt megane (51 plate) .

Basically the only way I can describe it, is I was driving to ASDA tonight and I have went to slow down for a roundabout not excessively or anything and there was bang which sounded like it came from the rear of the car and then a plume of smoke followed it. I got out checked the tyres all seem fined, engine was ticking over as normal all seemed ok, until I went to pull away and the car seemed to struggle like it was lumpy is the only way I can describe it, can anyone help ???????

Worth a mention that since driving home, the brakes, engine etc all acted like normal just feels like its struggling when I go to pull away

Re: Renault Megane 2001 - problem

Th ebamg sounds ominous - could be unburnt fuel igniting in the exhaust. It may be due to an ignition fault causing poor igbnition of fuel - hence the poor pulling power. Can you establish if the engine is running equally on a four cylinders?
