1999 Renault Scenic (automatic) starter motor problem?

Hi all,

For the last few weeks the above car has had an intermittent problem. I would turn the key in the ignition like normal and all dash lights ect would light up, fuel pump engages, but the engine won't turn over at all.

After being left for a few minutes it would start on the button like normal. however the last 2 days it has failed to start whatsoever.

I went out and got a second hand starter motor, and then I hit a snag....I can't even see the bloody thing under the bonnet!

Is it possible to replace the starter motor at all from the bonnet, as i have no ramps/axel stands...Or even a jack for that matter :/

Usually i'd take it to a garage to get it done, but I only wan't the car to last another week or so and then it's going to the scrap heap in the sky anyway, so really don't fancy spending money on it if i can help it

Thanks in advance

Have you had the battery load tested and also checked the battery connections plus the engine earth lead.

Yes the starter is a pig and yes you would need it up on a ramp or such.
