fuel warning light problems

hi i have a renault scenic 1.5dci 106 dynamice and the fuel warning light used to come on when there was 50 mile left in the tank but recently its been increasing by about 4 mile everytime i fill up it now saying there is 70 mile left until empty and i suspect that next time it will come on and say 74 miles until empty confussed can yone shedany light?

The computer only makes a guessimate as to miles remaining based on the previous mpg. So for instance if you were driving a long distance at a steady speed (good mpg) then the computer assumes the mpg will remain constant and vice versa if you were driving in slow moving traffic (poor mpg).
Ideally you need to reset the computer each time you fill up.

I wouldn't say the onboard computer is a liar but it is definitely economic with the truth at the best of times.
