I have had my renault scenic 1.5dci since april 2006 and have done 7000 miles, I have now got a change engine oil soon message, although the 1st service is not due until 12000 miles or end of march this year, should I worry about this?

Do a forum search, there a re loads of similar threads about this.

The service intervals are also time related as well as mileage, so your car is probably nearly 12 months old, hence the message. The car was probably built in February although you didn't take delivery until April.
I have yet to know of a dealer that resets the service indicator at the time of delivery.
This is not uncommon, all cars of all makes have the same, this question is asked many times on many different forums for many different cars.

As long as you get the car serviced on time in MArch or 12000 miles your dealer will reset the timer and it will be back in sync again.
It is not much use resetting the timer now as it will be way out - unless you are fed up of the message.
There should be instructions in your owners manual telling you how to reset it.
