When I worked in the trade, our sales dept were always "trying" to put cars out to customers with faults. Nothing serious, but they were just trying to keep their dept costs down. We as mechanics were always a bit annoyed at this, and our gaffer had many a shouting match with the sales manager, trying to give the "sensibility" side of the argument. If the fault was deemed bad enough by one of the lads on the shop floor, then most times, it was repaired.
However ........ sometimes when the sales dept knew either the customer wouldn't spot the problem, it wouldn't be spotted until MOT time or it would be repaired under the "3 month" warranty then the car would sometimes be released to the poor customer. If they then returned the car with the fault, the sales dept would first try to wiggle out of the repair then would eventually agree to cover the costs. They would just claim the cost back on the "warranty" at no cost to the sales dept, because of course, the customer had paid for this wonderful warranty.

I personally would prefer to buy a car and never have any need to return to the garage other than for routine servicing. In my view I would then see that garage as being a place I might return to for another purchase not somewhere that sold me a piece of junk that needed repairs within a very short period of time.

I think I have CDO. It's like OCD, but with ALL THE LETTERS IN THE RIGHT ORDER
