When you say 'accident' do you mean there was some form of impact resulting from the split hose?

Surprisingly it's not that unusual,I personally have had wheel cylinders and brake pipes burst and I have seen hoses burst for others.

I've also had a couple of coil springs break,one on a Mercedes driving on to a lift and one on a Mondeo whilst I was lowering the car down on a two post lift after putting a new spring on the other side.
Currently in Lagdti's garage:
2004 Saab 9-5 HOT Aero and a 2001 Audi A3 1.8 Turbo

I think we've all been behind a vehicle that has a brake cable hanging down where its come out of a retaining clip. Its conceivable this is whats happened with the A class and its caught on a part of the ramp whilst being driven on. Just a thought...
