advice needed please

hi all,
i think maybe i,ve just been ripped off ! no-one to blame but myself but maybe someone on here could answer some questions - it was sold as 2004 renault megane dynamique 16v cabriolet karmann ltd edition 2ltr
on the log book it says renault megane 16v cabriolet - when i put the reg into websites for insurance various models come up i.e.T,VT OR VVT & I haven,t a clue which this one is - what is a "karmann" ltd edition or is there such a thing if so is there any markings to denote this ? also i was told that the cam belt & filters had been done & proof was in the paperwork, needless to say it wasn,t,how often does the cam need changing & is it an expensive job.i think i bought at the right price(private sale) but i,m a bit worried that i might have bought something dodgy - i must add i am merely a woman & i hope a not to stupid one !! lol can anyone inform me of anything please

Re: advice needed please

welcome to the forum

the cambelt should be changed at 72.000 miles. or 5 years, whichever is soonest

you didnt list its mileage, so if we go by time, and it was done when it was 5 years old, it will be due next year at the latest

Re: advice needed please

Hi and welcome aboard and don't let Karen hear you saying only a woman. Anyone can fall for people selling second hand so don't worry about it.
I always advise people to change the cam belt when they are not 100% sure about a cars history. Far cheaper than having the belt snap.

My Scenic has it's model badge on the inside of the glove box lid.

Not 100% sure about model names so no idea about the karman bit. However surely the VVT and 16v simply refer to the engine.

You've got it now and if it's a nice car, reliable and does what you want it to do does it matter about the model?

Re: advice needed please

I can understand 2 reasons why it's important to know the exact model; one is insurance, the other is if the OP paid a premium for a car which has been mis-advertised.

The simplest thing would be to contact your local renault dealer or Renault Customer Services who can tell you exactly what the car's designation is.

If you have any doubt about the seller's honesty, print off and keep the advert for the car, as you may need this as evidence if all isn't what it seems (or was sold as).
