good advice for diy mechanics

don't. leave it to a garage to fix.
if you runnin your car on a shoestring best do without one. you know it makes sense .

I'm puzzled Are you saying you had messed up doing your own maintenance? DIY maintenance is satisfying if you've somewhere reasonable to work safely and you have a fairly decent range of tools, and a car accessory shop a short distance away should you need any urgent bits (though most these days just have pre-packaged useless accessories rather than mechanical/electrical spares ).
But the other adage worth following is "if it ain't broke don't fix it!".
