I signed another petition on a motorcycle subject on the PMs petitions as did a few thousand others.

The petition closed a few days ago and I got an email from NO10 It was the Government just giving out the same blurb. The petition was turned down.

Hope this one is succesful, signed it weeks ago.

Their justification for ignoring it is purely down to the wording. They reckon the argument is full of inaccuraces and portrays the proposal as being much more sinister than it really is. Frankly, I think that's a bit rich coming from a bunch that have relied so heavily on spin in the past, but there you go. How many people really browse that website to read through the petitions? Surely the government must realise that the vast majority only visited the page because they'd already made their minds up about road charging.

But it seems that they've made their decision, and they feel that they know what's in the public's best interests, even if a large proportion of the public doesn't agree. Hmm, replacing an unfair but accepted form of mass taxation with another, supposedly fairer one against the will of the people. Sound familiar? Poll Tax anyone?

And that was the nail in Maggie's coffin. Third term megalomania had set in, and she believed she could do no wrong. Tone and his mates should realise that history has a habit of repeating itself. If they go ahead with this barmy scheme, then hopefully we'll get to watch it happen.

And tonight the total number of signatures stands at over 713,000.

With 2 weeks to go the final figure should be well over 1 million, so if, as some people are saying, the government plan to ignore it then they should get the same treatment Thatcher got over the poll tax.
