A Rant (well 2 actually)

Rant 1

Driving to London and back in the van on Saturday I was amazed at the number of cars with their fog lights on! Visibility c.1 mile, clear sky and dry road. Why do people insist on frying my eye balls – especially on my way back in the dark!!! Let me tell you – you think it makes your car look better – problem is that when you are inside it you can’t see how much better it looks and no body else gives a sh1t! So turn them off and enjoy the benefit of the extra 0.5bhp it gives you. Is there a signal that other road users can use to politely suggest the use of fog lights is unnecessary; other than the obvious!!

Rant 2

On the same journey I was surprised, and dismayed, at the higher number of “middle lane drivers” there are on the weekend. I honestly think that there should be a part of the driving test on motorway driving and etiquette. When the lane to your left is clear – use it. When a car / van / lorry is indicating to come across into the middle lane use your mirrors to check the lane outside you; if the lane is clear then move across and use it thus letting the other vehicle use the middle lane! Simple!! The number of times you see just two lanes of the motorway being used and a clear inside lane is stupid!!!!!

Rant over - for now!!

Is it just me, or do fog lights make bugger all difference at night? (unless it's foggy obviously )

As for the motorway comment.......... It's not just weekend drivers! I'm on the road everyday and they're out there all week

Fog Lights on in good visability, this really p####s me off!!

I thought it was against the law. I remember being stopped once in an old MG because I had accidently switched them on and that was during the day!!

Mind you I can remember when you could argue that you were" making progress" when stopped for speeding. I see more milk floats on the roads now than I see Police cars.

You have "hit the nail on the head" nobby.

Traffic Police have nearly all been replaced with "safety" cameras.

Front fog light abuse? Pick from the following list:
1) I'm not driving the poverty spec model, and I want you all to know that.
2) What do you mean it's not foggy? It's drizzling a bit, and that's 'reduced visibility' in my book.
3) They make my car look sleeker and lower to the ground. I like them. (Usually side lights and fog lights on but headlights off.) I saw someone doing that in a Scenic recently, which tickled me.
4) I paid extra for these things, so I'm damned well going to use them.
5) I want as many lights on the front of my car as possible. It makes me feel safest in case oncoming drivers don't notice my headlights.
6) What does this switch do then? Oh, it makes the little light on the dashboard go on and off. I like the little light. I think I'll leave it on. (Applies to rear fogs too.)

Outside of genuine foggy conditions, the only time I've ever found front fog lights to be useful is on wet roads with badly worn lane markings at night.
