i am not 100% sure on this, but... under some section of consumer law, when an item changes owners the warranty does not automatically transfer to the new owner, this is just assumed, if there was a 5 year warranty and was sold again with a year left, unless there is somesort of written contract it will not legally stand. when you buy a new second hand car the deal may include 3 months engine and transmission warranty that is covered by some sort of insurance, they may say that the car still has so much manufacturers warranty left on - just a con so you buy and feel safe that there is warranty to fall on.

happened to anyone?

Telboy is absolutely right...

You can have a car under 'new car warranty' serviced by an independant as long as the parts used are of O.E spec or higher(I've never really understood the higher bit.....if you don't use their parts you snookered, basically!).

If the car shows a fault, the problem can be looked at by anyone, bit MUST be repaired by the relevant franchised dealer. If the independant carried out the work you would have to pay for it and if anything else went wrong which was associated (or could be associated) with the work done, the warranty for that area would be void.

Top post,Telboy.

I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....
