i am having my head gasket replaced next week due to oil coming out of engine block seal. and a bit white mayonaise stuff on oil cap.could this also effect rough idling and compression loss for acceleration.

Hi there Tommy, yes the 'mayonaise' is water which has emulsified with the oil . Basically, a gasket or seal has failed somewhere internally, which has let the fluids mix. You will probably also have some oil in your expansion bottle.

It will adversely affect the car's running, as compression is normally weakened.

I wouldn't drive it any more than is absolutely essential,(if at all) as you might cause the engine to fail altogether and it won't be repairable...

Hope I've managed to confirm what you already suspected.

This job should never be complete - the day I think I've done it all, is the day I resign.

Agreed, try not to drive it if poss. you will be loosing compression and if the gasket blows through completly you could do worse damage.
