I use the Aircon most days, great for demisting, I use it more in the summer obviously. I have found it does not have a huge effect on the fuel consumption on most of the cars I have owned which have had aircon fitted.

Hi Steven, I tend to turn my aircon on two or three times a month whatever the season just to make sure it's working still, we used it a lot when we went to France last June but didn't notice a vast decrease in fuel consumption,

Same as otto.

I leave mine set to Auto all year round - air con cuts in whenever needed.
Air con also dehumidifies so is very good at demisting in the winter.
You should always use air con at least once a month for 10 minutes min to lubricate the seals. If you don't they dry out and the gas will escape.
Air con has very little effect on economy (unless you have a small petrol engine, 1.2 say). Windows open or sunroof use just as much fuel. I think aircon is slightly more wasteful on fuel thanhaving windows open at low speeds, bt hit 30mph plus and air con is more economical.

Don't worry about it - use it or lose it. It makes driving so must more comfortable all year round.
