anyone know is it possible to fit any sort of bicycle carrier to a 2006 megane authentique?

I don't see any reason why one wouldn't fit, but you can see a range of possibilities (and presumably enquire for compatibility) on Formula4 The No.1 for 4x4 Accessories, 4x4 Tyres, 4x4 Wheels and Van Accessories. | Home who stock quite a range.

Some need a towball for securing, others just mount onto the rear.

As long as the tailgate is not fiberglass, which I believe yours is not, any should fit. Steer clear of the dirt cheap ones as they are not very stable. The Hollywood range are reasonably priced easy to fit and work very well.
