I remember reading an article in a magazine a good few years ago, about a tractor which had been tuned/geared for over 100MPH (in addition to a forklift truck, which could do the same), those velocities we take for granted in cars/bikes/trains & planes, but I could only imagine the instability involved in driving these modified vehicles at those speeds.

Still, if tractors could do road speeds safely, then that would help cut congestion on rural roads...

This job should never be complete - the day I think I've done it all, is the day I resign.

My company is at present trialing a new fully electronic "green" zero emissions 7.5 tonne lorry. Not tried it myself yet but when it's not restricted it can do 0-60 in 4 seconds!!!
Thats faster than a Porsche for gods sake.

The biggest problem were having with the truck is that it is too quiet...pedestrians keep walking straight in front of it because they cannot hear it coming.

TNT are seriously looking at fitting a looped tape with "lorry engine sounds" on it and fitting external speakers to the vehicle to try and combat this.

Powered by 6 suitcase sized batteries with less moving parts. power is there when needed hence the great accelleration. Range at the moment is about 200 km on a full charge.
