Government vehicle inspectors in Northern Ireland have had this power for the past 40 years or more. It has caused no problems but recently they gave been targeting the modification brigade of motorists as there have been accidents due to amateur bodged modifications after there was a serious accident where a young lad had put lowered springs into the rear of his motor and when he hit a pothole it fell out onto the road. In some cases they actually have the car lifted off the road on a transporter and taken to a government examination centre - they also have the power to put the vehicle of the road. I'm all for being able to mod your car in a responsible way but I know off many young people who just buy stuff of the Internet and bolt it on following the instructions provided. In all honesty I think the companies who supply these items should have a large warning on the opening page of their websites. Many have little or no mechanical knowledge and the effects such mods may have on the safety of themselves and others.
