Is there a tank vent which could be blocked, so the air pressure backs up and operates the safety valve on the nozzle?

Sometimes you need to vary the angle/extent the nozzle is inserted, and also vary the flow, as the nozzle will cut-out if it detects excess pressure building up.

Some cars are more prone to this than others.

As mentioned some fuel pumps are bad for cutting off if you hold them at an angle.

Does it do it with different fuel pumps...maybe the pump was dodgy?

To do this:
Hover over the "TOOLS" tab at the top of the page
> then in the dropdown click on "User Dashboard"
> click on "Edit Your Details" at the top Left hand side.
> scroll down to the "What's current in your garage?" box and enter your vehicle details.
> Once the details are entered scroll down to the bottom of the page and click "Save Changes"

> Done.
