Either adjust it or apply some 'belt slip'
Will this be in the Haynes manual?

It should be in the manual as it will be a routine check with belt adjustment.
Usually the belt has becone 'shiny' and hence cannot grip properly.
I referred to spray on 'belt slip' the can, I have, is called 'belt dressing' spray it on as the engine ticks over if you have sufficient access to the belt. Quite dramatic quietening of the squeal.

hi Powell - get it sorted soon because if the auxilliary belt breaks it can cause damage to the timing belt and you could end up with a wrecked engine.
