Should I buy a Mk2 Scenic?

We currently own a Mk1 phase 2 16v Expression+ with 107K on the clock from 71K.
SWMBO wants summat newer, 05 plate onwards.
Considering the known Mk2 faults:-
Handbrake, KeyCards, Display, Mirror switch fires, etc
Should we buy a 1.6 or 1.4 VVT or go for another make? Diesel not an option (great risk of misfuelling & Turbo 's burning engine oil ).
All opinions gratefully received.

Re: Should I buy a Mk2 Scenic?

I own a 2004 one and when it's working properly its a great car, a little thirsty for a diesel but a good car. Having said that, I am now looking at the Toyota Corrola Verso and the VW Touran as a replacement as my particular mk2 Scenic doesn't seem to spend much time working properly. The Touran appears a bit pricey still and isn't without common faults and Ive been told the Toyota isn't that good on fuel.

Re: Should I buy a Mk2 Scenic?

Pays your money takes your choice
At that sort of age, good chance many of the one time faults would have been dealt with
Mine had a new dash before I bought it and heater resistor pack when I bought it (dealer did it)
Found out since it had a new handbrake motor unit in 2010
Most faults since have been minor, fixes only frustrating cos Renault designers have no idea of maintenance or repair needs
Had a handbrake issue that was a pain cos of lack of information/knowledge but resolved eventually without megabucks
Its worth looking at relevant forums about any car type to see what their common faults are
Currently in Dancingdad's garage:
Qashqai 1.6 spark driven, Kia Sedona 2.9 TDI, Scenic II 15DCi 2004 (SORN) not quite RIP.
