Voice computer in Laguna 2002

I am in the process of buying a Laguna Tourer Priviledge (2002) model. I noticed that it had some sort of voice computer/warning system. I have had a similar car in the past though I havent came across this function before.

Can someone let me know what this is and what's it's purpose?

It tells you if there's a problem with the car. That can range from driver/passenger errors (setting off with the handbrake on or a door improperly closed) through to proper faults (tyre pressure warnings, ECU warnings etc.) It also gives you a voice prompt when the fuel low warning light comes on.

If you don't like it, you can turn it off. Well you can't turn it off completely but you can replace it with a chime. There's a 'mute' button on the dash to do that. Pressing the button above the 'mute' one repeats the current fault condition (even if muted) unless there's nothing wrong, in which case it says something along the lines of "The vehicle computer is now checking systems for you."

Thanks for that, I wasnt 't sure if it was a voice activiation system for handsfree. Ah well I should get annoyed with that after the first few drives.

It's a good system which was first used in the earlier laguna's although the voice is now female.

Their are some confusing messages which may stump you at some point in the ownership..

For example

With the Xenon Lights on the screen washer water tank also supplies the high pressure headlight washers which pop out of the bumper on stalks. Although the capacity of said tank is large they do run low after about 15 long squirts. At this point you will hear the voice synth saying :- "Warning
Windscreen Washer Fluid Level Low" will set off each time to start to climb a hill or accelerate hard for water level vs sensor issues..

OK next thing to bear in mond the synth says "warning rear light faulty" but you check the rear lights and brake lights and there is no problem ???

You start to worry that the computer is playing up ??

However ( whilst laying on the floor at the rear of your car in shear desperation ) you look up and then realise that it's the number plate bulb that has gone !!

Doh !!

Micheal Knights Kit it is not but it is a great little aid which can be turned off in favour of a "bing bong" type warning noise.
