Service with MOT, do you think it's worth me splashing the cash?
Hello everyone I bought my 03 Clio in September and it's approaching that time of year for an MOT.
First let me give you a bit of background info. I bought this car for £950 with 108k miles on the clock. All the past MOT certificates were included and it has full service history up until 2012. There seems to be a few odd jobs done here and there spark plugs, new starter motor etc. to keep it ticking over. Sadly there is no mention of a cambelt change (worrying due to its mileage and age). I did ask the dealer, a local garage, to replace this for me, but he insisted that after inspection the cambelt seemed to be in pretty good condition so must have been recently changed.....
Taking his word the car seems to be running fine and have only had a few problems with the check engine light randomly coming on, starter motor jamming every so often and the common Clio service and airbag light combo. So moving onto my question do you think its worth me forking out for a full service alongside or before my MOT due to the age and value of my car?
I only expect my car to last me a couple of years until I can afford to move onto bigger and better things. Service could lead to expensive repair bills for faults I didn't know where there and am not experienced enough to do motoring jobs myself. However it could help to retain the cars value and prevent even more costly bills if something major goes wrong. What do you guys think? Trying to weigh the pros and cons and need some advice. Thanks in advance BFBB
