Previously I have had a Clio (2001) which was having intermittent starting problems, it was thought that it was the key causing the problem and not disarming the immobiliser (the car would open though when you pressed the key button), so the key was "repaired" (a few months back) and after that it seemed to start okay.
This morning, it started okay and was driven 20miles or so for work, after work, it wouldn't start (it would try and turn over)
I used a multimeter to test battery voltage and tested the following
No load: 12.6v
Headlights on only: dropped to 12.1v
Key turned fully: dropped to around 10v
It didn't seem too bad, however, I tried to jump start it, it worked first time.
Checked the voltage again with engine running and it was 14.1v which seems okay. The car was driven a mile down the road to home, in which it started again no problem when it was at home.
I don't know if this is related, but occasionally the speedo drops to 0mph even when the car is moving and sometimes the steering feels light.
As well when the car starts, it smokes a bit, like a greyish smoke (it is only really noticeable in the morning), I don't think it is condensation though.
Any help would be great,
