i had the MG Maestro 2.0 EFI and it was a great car
And therein lies the rub.
BL could and did produce good cars. Like em or not, cars like the Maestro and Montego where inherently decent designs. Certainly no worse then the Fords or Vauxhalls of the time.
But poor management, poor production control, bloody minded unions, blame it on what you want, they lost their good name. And it not only killed BL but left the poor memories that many of us obviously share.
When they released the SD1 there was a waiting list a mile long. Rover was the luxury executive saloon of choice. And salesmen laughed and said "Everyone wants one mate, you'll just have to wait"
So the punters looked elsewhere.. Then the build problems came to light. Poor electrics, bits falling of and way too early rust.
Rover went from top to bottom and BMW, who were no more then a exotic oddity in the UK, sky rocketed.
