Sorry old pal, but if it's not taxed it should be on a trailer, they scrapped the 14 day rule so as to get extra revenue.

As to what ribbon said you will probably only get that fine by a parking warden rather then police as they can check the database with a touch of a button.

Yeah I thought about doing it online or over the phone, but the problem is as I bought the car Thursday, the DVLA wouldnt have recieved the notification of change of keeper yet, so the address the TAX disc would be posted too would be incorrect. They sugest not to do it online for upto 6 weeks from changing owner - a bit long in my book.

Just one of those silly situations where online they could confirm my MOT/Insurance but not that I am the owner, where in the post office they could confirm I am the Owner and MOT but not my insurance!

Anyway got my cover note so on my way to the post office for my tax

It sounds to me like the dealer's done a half-arsed job of selling you the car. Unless, that is, you literally walked up on the day, said "I'll have that one", handed over the cash and drove away.

In my experience, dealers routinely leave the cars untaxed on the forecourt and charge you for 6 or 12 months tax when you buy. If they generally made this kind of mess of things, everyone would have this problem.

From what I remember of trading the last Clio in, we gave the insurance company a few days notice and they sent the cover note straight to the dealer. We simply paid the price of the car + 12 months tax, and the car had a fresh disk in the window when we picked it up.
